Mune: The Guardian of the Moon

Hello people, who may or may not like animated movies with cool lore, this review is for you. Check out my take on Mune: Guardian of the Moon.

Mune: Guardian of the Moon is made by GKids (from my understanding it’s Studio Ghibli but newer creators or more experimental movies). Basically, if you want to watch this with your kiddos, you can. If you don’t want to watch this with your kiddos ( or if you don’t have any kiddos) you can do that too. It’s an hour and 25 minutes and I watched it on Netflix but you can find it on other platforms too. If you liked Moana but wished there were a love triangle and less singing, you’ll like this movie.

What is Mune: Guardian of the Moon about?

Mune: Guardian of the Moon stars three main characters: Mune (of course), Sohone, and Glim. They live in a world where the sun and the moon are led around on leashes and protected by guardians that are chosen every few hundred years. Mune is your classic I-have-this-destiny-I-didn’t-ask-for character. Sohone is your classic ladies’ man/gym bro character. Glim is a strong female character who fearlessly leaps into danger despite being made entirely of wax. For such a short movie, there is not a wasted second. Something I really enjoyed is the theme of complementary opposites. Sun and moon. The world does not function properly with one or the other. You need both. (Something we could all learn).

Bullet point time:

What I liked:

  • The animation
  • The world-building
  • Glim
  • Mune
  • Little puff ball mascots

What I disliked:

  • The predictable twist at the end
  • It’s not a memorable movie

Overall, I give this movie a 7/10. Thank you for reading my take on Mune: Guardian of the Moon, I appreciate it. Comment below your favorite GKids film. If you like my content, consider subscribing to my mailing list and if you want another movie thing, click here.
