Hello people, who may or may not like Sherlock Holmes, this review is for you. Check out my take on BBC Sherlock!

BBC Sherlock is Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat’s love letter to the classic story of Sherlock Holmes. The episodes are long, each one is like a movie. However, each season is only ~3-4 episodes. I myself have watched and re-watched this show at least twice. The first time the entire show was not out yet. That was back when the fandom had to wait 3 years in between seasons. So those hopping in on the BBC Sherlock train now, I hope you know how lucky you are. The second time, I introduced the show to my family and it was quite the family bonding experience.

Warning: Minor spoilers ahead!!

Things I liked about BBC Sherlock:

  • Accuracy to the books (moreso in season 1, later seasons combined serveral stories).
  • Gatiss both writes and stars in the show
  • Moriarty. Just Moriarty. My favorite scenes with him are the infamous pool scene, the crown jewel scene, and season 4.
  • the superb acting from everyone.
  • The humor
  • The theme song.
  • I like shows pull off something spectacular and then explain how it happened. It’s why I love detective shows in general
  • Sherlock and Mycroft’s brotherly banter.
  • The ending of the series is not quite what you expect. It wasn’t what I thought it was going to be.
  • Season 3’s first episode is an amazing way to nod to the fandom that waited and theorized in a state of agony.
  • Season 4’s ending is both an ending but can also be continued if so desired.

Final Thoughts:

I’ll be honest, it’s hard to think a show I loved in high school is over. I used to stay up late binge-watching this with a friend over birthday cake Oreos. When the final season came out, I had my family start from the beginning and they fell in love as well. The hard part about detective shows is once you know the mystery, you know the mystery. Overall, I give this show a 10/10. Thank you for reading my take on “BBC Sherlock”, I appreciate it. Comment below your favorite take on Sherlock Holmes.
